Welcome to the Under 8s for the new 2020/21 season!
This is an age where we can enthuse a young person to participate in sport for the rest of his/her life... or, if we are not careful, condemn him/her to the sofa! Training sessions MUST be fun, start and finish on time and coaches need to show empathy with the players throughout. The Club has adopted and extended leading-edge coaching techniques such as 'Game-Related Play' to encourage full participation by each player, and at U8 we continue to develop core skills through non-contact tag rugby.
Home training sessions are held at the Bank of England Sports Club, Roehampton Lane from September to April
Normally we play a variety of friendly matches with local clubs and each season culminates with the Middlesex County Festival, where we aim to ensure that all interested players participate! This Festival is normally the highlight of a young player's season and we are keeping fingers crossed that it will go ahead in 2021, COVID-19 allowing!
Recruitment ‘No coaches, no helpers, no Mini Rugby!’
Everyone involved in Mini Rugby is an unpaid volunteer. For the coming season the U8 would welcome new volunteers. The club actively encourages coaches to gain the relevant RFU qualifications and can provide help and support with this.
