Welcome to the Under-8s for the new 2019/20 season at the Bank of England Rugby Club!
BOERFC enjoys some of the best pitches and facilities in South West London and so remains an ideal location at which to make a start in the game. This is an age where we can enthuse a young person to participate in sport for the rest of his/her life... or, if we are not careful, condemn him/her to the sofa! Training sessions MUST be fun, start and finish on time and coaches need to show empathy with the players throughout. The Club has adopted and extended leading-edge coaching techniques such as 'Game-Related Play' to encourage full participation by each player, and at U8 we continue to develop core skills through non-contact tag rugby.
Home training sessions are held at the Bank of England Sports Club, Roehampton Lane. For the Under 8s these are held on a Sunday from 9:45 to 11:15. Ideally players should arrive 10 to 15 minutes beforehand, to put on boots etc. Note that sessions may finish early in the event of inclement weather!
For Under 8s we expect parents/guardians to remain on the touchline for the duration of the training session/match whether home or away. As far as possible the whole club (in practice U7 to U11) participates in the same home/away fixtures (see fixture list... and please be aware that this can change with the latest copy available on boerfc.com and with 'stop press' announcements made at the end of each home training session) to avoid sibling and other organisational issues.
Each season culminates with the Middlesex County Festival and we make best endeavours to ensure all interested players participate! This Festival is normally the highlight of a young player's season.
It is not essential for a player to have specialist kit for the start of the season. For example, T-shirts, shorts/tracksuit (no zips, please!) and trainers are perfectly suitable for the first few sessions. Keeping warm and dry, at this age, is critical to the child’s enjoyment and future ongoing participation.
Recruitment ‘No coaches, no helpers, no Mini Rugby!’
Everyone involved in Mini Rugby is an unpaid volunteer. For the coming season the U8 would welcome new volunteers. The club actively encourages coaches to gain the relevant RFU qualifications and can provide help and support with this.
